And what do you think was the next, Ksusha? He did it: German officer let them go! My grandfather didn’t know their names, surnames, nothing about them, but he saved their lives! He was a winner and a brave man! I guess this story could occupy its own niche in our history. And this situation is the main reason why I suppose that he can be not only my idol, but an idol of a lot of people. A big thing made by a big person… That’s it. Why did I tell you this story? Maybe he was not such a good person for other people, but he made a decision and did something, that could be done not by everyone. So as a result we see that his skill of playing cards allowed him to save other people’s lives.
So Ksusha, now I am gonna tell you a little thing that has been a secret for you since you have come. I am a gambler as my grandfather.
I guess you will think that the reason of this coincidence is my
admiration of grandpa, but this only a part of my big motive. I have
been dreaming to be a gambler since my childhood. When I was a kid, I
used to have a deck of cards with me every day and
night. It was like my talisman if you wish. And even when other children
from my neighborhood were playing football or playing in Cossacks, I
was sitting somewhere alone and was trying to learn at least something
about cards and about the strategies and methods that can be used in
card games. My parents were against my ideas. But I had a purpose: to become a professional gambler. I knew that I would be able to do that. And I did.
Now I am a well-known person in our ‘circles’. I have a good reputation and everything that you see in this house right now is a result of my great career.
And I am proud of myself, you know. I made my dream come true without
any help and any advices. I was going straight to my goal and I reached
it. So as you see, Ksusha, each person that has a dream to be this or
that can do it easily if nobody stops him. If you wanna be a good
journalist and if you have a talent, you will be a pro! It is an
easy-to-understand connection. People who want to have an exact
occupation and who want to dedicate their lives to an exact profession
should try themselves and go ahead till the end. Then they will have a
desirable result. I hope you will do so and you will be proud of
yourself as well as I am proud of me. And by the way, I know that you
are doing the business – it is a quite good reason for
being proud just right now, without any results. But I guess that you
want to have more, you are just like me’.
He has finished his
story. The time passed quickly and imperceptibly. We were silent. But
suddenly he has broken this silence in the room: ‘In conclusion I would
like to give you an advice. Every time when you do want
to start something, bring it to a close. If you are not sure that you
can do it or something is worrying you, then even do not start. This is
what I want to tell you. And I hope you get my point’.
I thanked him and I told
that this was a unique time when a person changed my world a bit. He
changed my views, my ideas and my plan of how I can reach my goals. Thus
maybe this meeting even changed my future. I was glad
to get to know this person and I was happy to listen to his story. The
story of a person who is interesting in many cases…
